Reef Dives On The Sunshine Coast

We journey to a number of dive sites on the Sunshine Coast, each one of which will guarantee you a fantastic time as you explore the depths of the waters alongside the many varieties of fish and coral life.

Ex-HMAS Brisbane Wreck

The ex-HMAS Brisbane is the largest diveable wreck in Queensland and lies within a Conservation Park. It’s one of the world’s best wreck sites and now serves as a large artificial reef with a wide array of colourful sea creatures. Expect to see clownfish, anemones, lionfish, rays, and perhaps even the occasional octopus too.

Venturing inside the wreck, you will come face to face with massive schools of bait fish, the mysterious Queensland Groupers, and many more tropical delights besides. And on the sandy seafloor, you will find hermit crabs, lazy leopard sharks, and soaring bull rays as you explore the hidden depths of the waters.

DIving experts have long called this one of the best-prepared ships for an underwater odyssey, but you will just have to see this incredible site for yourself. And don’t need to worry if it’s your first time diving a wreck, as the Scuba World crew will make sure you have a safe and enjoyable adventure.

Mooloolaba Coral Reefs

The Mooloolaba hosts some of the healthiest and most beautiful coral reefs on the Sunshine Coast and includes up to 15 different dive sites. Found on the Inner Gneerings off Mooloolaba, the coral reefs contain a wide range of tropical sea creatures, including turtles, wobbegongs, and a vast variety of tropical fish.

There are a number of reefs to explore, so you really are spoiled for choice. Highlights include Clown Reef, where you are almost guaranteed to find Nemo, and Wonderland, which is as wondrous as its name suggests with its beautiful display of hard and soft corals and tropical sea life. Then there’s Lost Canyons, an underwater paradise that is perfect for new divers, and Old Woman Island that is a haven for sea turtles.

We have only touched upon a few of the coral reefs at Mooloolaba, but browse our website to learn more about each reef, and talk to our experienced dive team about our personal recommendations.

Flinders Reef

Flinders Reef is one of the most popular dive sites in Queensland and is protected within the Moreton Bay Marine Park. This small isolated reef is located near Moreton Island and contains the largest number of coral species of any sub tropical reef system on Australia’s east coast. Flinders Reef contains more than 175 fish species, and between June and September, Humpback Whales can often be seen on the surface of the waters. Marine life includes Manta Rays, Leopard Sharks, and a vast array of tropical fish, so you have much to see as you explore the depths of this magical underwater kingdom.

Dive Courses

With so much to see and do underwater, we’re sure you’re just itching to take a reef dive. However, safety must always come first, and in this regard, you do need to have sufficient training behind you if you want to start diving.

When you have become a scuba diver, you will be able to join us on many of our boat trips, and you will have the opportunity to explore our full selection of weightless underwater worlds beneath the ocean depths.

At Scuba World we offer training from beginner to advanced levels. The Try Scuba program is an entry-level program for beginners, and this will give you the opportunity to get a feel of the underwater experience. If you decide you want to take up the sport on a permanent level (and we’re sure you will after getting your first taste of life underwater), then the Open Water Diver program is your way to get internationally certified.

We have a range of other courses for those looking to advance in their diving skills, including those courses that will take you from amateur to instructor level.
