Every diver wants to be a “good diver” – Perfect buoyancy control is the first step in this direction. “Improving your buoyancy control skills is highly recommended. Every diver who wants to improve diving skills and at the same time wants to perform active environmental protection should take a PERFECT BUOYANCY course. Nearly every diver who wants to dive on great spots on holiday is requested to do a Check-Dive and buoyancy control is one of the essential skills that has to be performed. This isn’t done to stress you out at the start of your holiday. It is done to protect the reefs you will be diving around. The destruction and harm caused by divers with weak buoyancy skills is having an impact on reefs worldwide. Additionally, perfect buoyancy control is a prerequisite for nearly all Specialty Courses.

Have you ever dreamed of having longer no-decompression limits to take pictures or explore a wreck? Did you ever want to be safer while diving concerning the potential risk of decompression sickness? Nitrox is the key. Due to the reduced fraction of nitrogen in your breathing gas, your body will have less work and the desaturation times will be reduced. In your ENRICHED AIR NITROX (EAN) course you will learn all the necessary rules for planning dives with Nitrox and using Nitrox in a safe way. An important key point in the entire course is analyzing your own tank prior to any Nitrox dive.

Diver Stress & Rescue

Stress is a major contributor to rescue situations and diving accidents. Through this course you will learn accident prevention, as well as how to handle problem situations if they occur. The program is about avoiding, recognizing and solving problems on the surface and underwater. The course runs for two days in which you will participate in academic and in-water sessions in the pool and in the open water. As a prerequisite for certification you need to have a valid CPR, First Aid & Oxygen Provider certificate.

EXTEND YOUR DIVE

Decompression Diving

Are you interested in learning how to extend your dive beyond the traditional no-decompression limits? Do you want to understand and use more of your dive computers features? Then the SSI Decompression Diving Specialty is for you!

 

This specialty course will teach you how to dive beyond the no-decompression limits. You will learn to plan and conduct dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters with limited decompression using your own recreational total diving system and a single decompression cylinder. You will learn and practice how to effectively use your dive computer features, including switching gases, gas integration, time-to-reserve and time-to-surface. Using these computer functions will become second nature, enabling you to safely conduct dives with limited decompression without hours of dive planning.

 

Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Decompression Diving Specialty certification and be able to explore stunning deep dives sites without being restricted by the traditional no-decompression limits. The opportunities to expand your diving adventures have just got bigger.

The course includes a 2 hour theory session in our classroom the evening before your first day of training. The first day of your course will begin at one of our local pools. You will learn how to S.W.I.T.C.H correctly (switching from your main regulator to your stage regulator), remove and replace your stage cylinder, share gas while ascending on your stage regulator and SMB deployment. After our pool session we will complete one dive to 21m on the local Mooloolaba reefs.

The second day will include a dive planning  session in the morning and two dives on the local Mooloolaba reefs between 30 and 35m. We will dive beyond the no-decompression limits of our computers and plan up to 15 minutes of decompression stops.

Evening   I  5pm – 7pm Theory session in our classroom

Day 1  I  7am – 5pm  3hr pool session, Lunch, 1 x boat dive on coral reef max depth 21m

Day 2  I  9am – 5pm  Dive planning, lunch, 2 x dives on coral reefs max depth 35m

DIVE WITHOUT A DESIGNATED DIVE BUDDY

Independent Diving

Scuba World is also the only dive shop in Australia that is an Aqualung Partner Centre and Scuba Schools International (SSI) Diamond Dive Centre. This is the highest achievable level worldwide.

 

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive without a designated dive buddy. You will learn about self-reliance, proper equipment maintenance, and the special considerations and rescue techniques required to dive independently.

  • SSI Master Diver or equivalent
  • 75 or more logged dives
  • 18 years of age
  • Fitness requirements (you need to have gone to the pool in your own time and completed these two fitness tests before you can enroll in this course)
    • Complete a 700 metre snorkel (using mask, snorkel and fins) in under 15 minutes. You can’t use your arms, simply your legs
    • Complete a 400 metre swim in your total diving system including your redundant first and second stage regulator and stage tank in under 15 minutes

Underwater photography has some challenges not found on land, but with the SSI Photo & Video specialty program, you will soon learn how to capture your amazing underwater experiences. At Scuba World, we have used the SSI content of this course as the foundation, and expanded it to provide more in-depth knowledge of photography.  You will develop your skills and learn techniques to take your underwater images to the next level, plus perfect your diving abilities while using your underwater camera system.

Mike and Shara will be running all these courses for the foreseeable future. Mike is an SSI Instructor Certifier with over 3000 logged dives in over 12 countries. He has been diving since 1997 and started underwater photography in 2010. He has a wealth of knowledge and video/photography is his passion. Mike understands how to interact with the marine life, and the skills that will take your photography to the next level.

Shara (Mike’s partner) although not a professional in either scuba or photography, exudes passion for both.  She fell in love with diving when she did her open water course at Scuba World in 2016, and now has over 300 dives. Shara has 5 years’ experience as a photography assistant.  In this time she has been involved in countless shoots, been on photography tours with the whales, attended Australian Institute of Professional Photography conferences, watched the judging of many award competitions and been heavily involved in the running of a photography business.

The combination of these two skill sets will ensure you receive a very high standard of teaching. We promise you will be given all the tools and tricks to improve your photos or videos. We guarantee it.

  • As this is a theory and pool only program, we believe that an ocean session with Mike/Shara would be hugely beneficial. We are offering a private session for $300 OR a group rate of $150 per person, minimum of 2pax. Either option will be PLUS the standard cost of a double dive (club members can use their free standby dives). In this session we will set goal images with you before the dive, help you to create them underwater, review your images after the dive and do a basic edit of one image.
  • Photo and video editing is also a huge part of underwater photography. This is not included in the course content. Editing sessions for anyone interested will be discussed during the course
