GENERAL DIVING: Preparing yourself for a dive (on the boat)

The start of everyone’s dive is generally the most stressful. Organising yourself and your buddy will set you up for a safe, and enjoyable diving experience. Here are a few of my tips that can help you get prepared.

Take it easy

There is no need to rush, take your time and make sure you are organised and in the right head space before you get in. You don’t want to be stuffing around once in the water, sort out any problems before you get in.

Lift your tank out

When you have your fins on and you are ready to get into your dive gear, lift your tank out from the tank rack onto the seat. This will make it a lot easier to get your arms in and ensure everything is neat and tidy before getting into the water. Ask your buddy to assist, and of course, your dive team and myself are always happy to help.

Wait for your buddy

Once you and your buddy are ready, enter the water within 30 seconds of each other. This will ensure that you can help each other if needed. It will also allow for a prompt descent. There is nothing worse thank waiting in choppy/cold water while your buddy is stuffing around on the boat. Timing is key.

Listen to your guides instructions at the surface

If you are being guided by one our friendly guides use their experience and knowledge to your advantage. They are providing you with information that will make your dive more enjoyable.
