Safe & fun — our 4-day Junior Open Water course inspires & builds confidence
With 45 years’ experience, we teach your kids to dive safely while building confidence, resilience, and life skills.
Our Junior Open Water course (ages 12 – 14) opens the door to the beautiful underwater world—local coral reefs, turtles, and tropical fish—while teaching calm breathing that feels like meditation under the water.
It’s fun, inspiring, and a chance to make new friends, bond with family, and join a welcoming dive community.
Junior Open Water Divers can dive anywhere in the world with a parent or guardian. Certification automatically upgrades to a full Open Water licence when they turn 15—setting the stage for future adventures, or even a career as a dive professional.
$1095
To ensure comfort and safety underwater, all Junior Open Water students must either hire or purchase their snorkel equipment from Scuba World. This guarantees high-quality gear that fits properly and enhances your child’s experience.
We highly recommend purchasing their own mask and snorkel (approx. $150–$200) as these will last for years to come.
If you prefer to hire a mask and snorkel, the cost is $50 for the 4-day course. Should you decide to purchase your own set, we’ll credit the $50 hire fee towards your new equipment.
For junior open water divers, boots and fins hire are included in the course fee.
Our courses run over two weekends or four consecutive days – please check the course dates before booking.
We offer a 4 day course only. However other operators offer 2 and 3 day courses. Remember that cheaper and quicker is not always better. Especially when it comes to your safety and enjoyment underwater.
A dive medical is only required if you have a medical condition that is considered at risk for scuba diving (such as asthma or epilepsy).
If you fall into one or more of these categories you will need to obtain a diving medical (AS4005.1) The cost is roughly $110 – $140 and takes about 45 minutes to complete with a registered diving doctor.
Not sure if you have an at risk medical condition? If you answer YES to any of the questions in this medical statement, you will need to obtain a dive medical.
Find a local diving doctor in your area or find out more information about diving medicals.
One of the course requirements is to demonstrate water proficiency skills. This includes a 200m swim (no time limit, any stroke) and a 10-minute survival float.
All junior open water courses are offered over four consecutive days to assist with learning and confidence.
