HMAS BRISBANE - FAQ

When you see a time on your confirmation email or an SMS it is when you need to meet at Scuba World, not the time our boat departs. You do not need to arrive early to get fitted out for hire equipment. There is more than enough time to do this between the time you arrive and when the boat departs.

Your first dive on the ship is an orientation dive, swimming around the outside of the wreck. If you wish to enter the ship this can be done on dive two, however a torch is mandatory if swimming inside the ship. Scuba World have high quality LED torches for rental – $10/double dive.

No. However gloves are highly recommended, as the surface of the ship is covered with barnacles and oysters. Scuba World SELL basic gloves for $25.

Queensland’s diving code of practice requires divers to carry their own whistle and safety sausage (SMB) and a snorkel.

Yes, the ex-HMAS Brisbane is in open sea conditions. There is no protection from surrounding islands & reefs. Scuba World will send you an SMS confirmation the day prior to your dive. If you have not received an SMS by 4pm the day prior to your dive, please call us to confirm the weather.

The ship sits in the sand at a depth of 28m. However the main deck of the wreck is approx 18m, so if you are only Open Water certified, you can still complete the dive to a max depth of 18m.

This depends on how long it has been since your last dive.

If you haven’t dived for more than 6 months click here for more information. You may need to complete a Pool ‘Check Out’ Dive or Scuba Skills Update before you can dive with Scuba World.

No, all you need is your Open Water Diver certification.

No. An experienced dive guide is always available to escort divers inside the ship*. The only time wreck certification is required is if there is the likelihood of becoming light locked while inside.
