Discover Scuba (Beginner/non-certified diving)

WHO ARE THEY FOR?

Discover scuba programs are aimed at people who have never dived before, who wish to see the underwater world up close and personal without committing the time and money to a full learn to dive course. The maximum ratio for beginner divers to Instructors is 2:1, and the maximum depth you can dive to is 10 meters. They are also suited to people who have little time.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

A one hour lesson is provided in a pool, then you experience a scuba dive to 10m with an instructor. You do not receive a certification, you are simply having a go.

WHY WE DO NOT RUN THESE EXPERIENCES?

Discover Scuba (Beginner/Non-certified Scuba Diving) on the Sunshine Coast is a very hit and miss activity. This is purely due to the ocean conditions.

The summer months (November – May) generally produce choppy seas, large ocean swells, and low visibility. Although the water is warm, scuba diving in these conditions is very challenging for people who have only had a ‘quick’ lesson.

The winter months (June – October) generally produce calm seas, with clear water, however the water temperature is between 19 and 21 degrees, and the demand for discover Scuba Diving is very low.

Due to the varied diving conditions and the low demand over the calmer (winter) months, it is difficult to run scheduled discover scuba diving experiences.

LEARNING TO DIVE

The team at SCUBA WORLD believes in high quality, thorough pool training, over a 2 day period, so you really feel comfortable before you enter the ocean. This is why we encourage all non-divers to enroll in an Open Water Course. At the completion of the course you will have an internationally recognised certification, providing you access to dive anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 18 meters.

WHERE CAN YOU COMPLETE A DISCOVER SCUBA (non-certified dive)?

We recommend travelling to the Great Barrier Reef or a pacific Island (where the ocean conditions are a lot more consistent all year round.
